Don’t let the name fool you. The Innocent Saint from Distillery No. 209 may look and sound innocent but it’s a far cry from boring or blameless. Fruity, decadent, and garnished with an aromatic twist of orange zest spiked with cloves this mischievous and tasty blend is sure to please both the sinners and the saints. The tequila rinse sets the stage for a wicked evening, with the flavorful mix of gin and mulled wine syrup rounding out a deliciously devilish drink. If the party gets too out of hand, you can’t blame this cocktail, after all, it’s innocent.

The Innocent Saint

1 1/2 Oz. No. 209 Gin
1 Oz. Mulled Red Wine Syrup*
1/2 Oz. Oloroso Sherry
1/4 Oz. Licor 43
3/4 Oz. Lemon Juice
Smokey Mezcal Rinse (ie Nuestra Soledad)

Rinse a rocks glass with a smoky Mezcal such as Nuestra Soledad and discard. Shake other ingredients with a couple of ice cubes and some crushed ice. Pour into a double rocks glass.  Add more crushed ice on top as necessary and garnish with an orange zest spiked with whole cloves.

*(Real saints make their own mulled red wine syrup)

Mulled Red Wine Syrup:
Lightly simmer red wine with equal parts of sugar by volume with mulling spices. Stir over heat until the sugar is dissolved, and let the mulling spices sit in the liquid until it comes to room temp.  Strain out the spices.
