My love affair with Pinotage continues! It’s been a while, but I’m back in the saddle and couldn’t think of a better way to get back on the horse. There can often be a distinct rubbery aroma and taste with Pinotage, which in all fairness I actually quite like, but the lack of it in this particular example is very refreshing and seems to open up the rest of the wine, exposing nuances that are often hard to find in Pinotage.
Upon opening, one’s senses are assaulted by woody aromas of dark berries and vanilla, with a subtle, almost confected background note of prune juice. The palate is broad and diverse, with a huge flavour profile, consisting of sweet dark fruit and some perfumed red fruit. Big and bold, with decent structure, fine, ripe tannins and a long finish.
Made for barbecue pulled pork and Monterey jack cheese. No decant necessary. Serve at 17-19’c.
