Since it’s right inside the SF JAZZ building, you might assume you have to be attending a concert to venture in South. But everybody’s welcome at this Hayes Valley cocina for drinks or Mexican fare. Not Mexican as in “The taco truck’s here, you guys hungry?” We’re talking clam ceviche with sour orange, habañero, yellow beets, and oregano. Rabbit in yellow mole with chard and carrots. Like that. The cocktail menu of tropical drinks was inspired by the journals of 20th century bon vivant and world traveler Charles H. Baker. Or you can keep it simple by ordering a shot of mescal in a clay copita with a glass of house-made sangrita on the side.
