The wine industry is full of biases, and not every well-made wine is given credit for being a solid, drinkable, enjoyable glass of wine. We like to have an open mind, and when Duck Commander, 2012 Wood Duck Chardonnay, made by industry titan Trinchero crossed our desk with it’s camouflage label and hillbilly bona fides, we were naturally skeptical, after all Louisiana swamp kings are not known for their refined and subtle palates. So it was with that open mind that we tasted the wine and happy to find a great bottle of wine at an affordable price. We found the wine to have a steely, minerally, clean, fresh taste on the palate, with a solid fruit nose and zero oakyness. Very well balanced with some depth and complexity we didn’t expect. Hands down our most surprising wine we’ve tasted this year.
