Lovely Blairsville, GA is about to get an addition to its attraction with the opening of a distillery at 161 Pappy’s Plaza. Grandaddy Mimm’s Authentic Moonshine announced their Grand Opening scheduled for Saturday October 8, 2016 with the official ribbon cutting at 4:30 p.m. followed by a free concert headlined by Grandaddy Mimm’s owner and Waymore’s Outlaws lead singer Tommy Townsend. Throughout the day, the gift shop, moonshine tastings and guided tours will be available to visitors and those of appropriate age will receive a free souvenir bottle of the Moonshine with each paid tour.
Townsend’s grandfather, Jack “Mimm” McClure was a famous moonshiner from the 30s until the 60s, having a reputation of being one of the smoothest moonshiners in the area and Townsend has been carrying on his legacy. The new distillery is just down the road from where Mimm used to make his moonshine and while the gift shop holds souvenir items such as t-shirts, shot glasses and more, it is also where Mimm’s restored covered wagon which he used to transport corn, sugar and moonshine is displayed. The tours show the process of making this long-lived liquid that a few years ago became legal to produce. Currently at the distillery you can find 100-proof Corn Whiskey, 140-proof Mule Kickin 140 and 40-proof Apple Brown Betty, Fresh Peach Cobbler, Wild Cherry Cobbler and Bluebbery Cobbler. So take a travel to scenic Blairsville and sip a smooth, cold ‘shine.
