Founded in 1948, Viña Maipo is located in the world-renowned Maipo Valley, where wines of outstanding quality are produced. In 1968, 20 years after the winery was founded, Chile’s largest wine group Concha y Toro took over the winery and increased the quality of wines, paving the way for its global standing. After selling 1 million cases in 2006, Viña Maipo became the 4th largest exporter of wine. Shortly after, Max Weinlaub became chief winemaker and implemented a new strategy focused on innovation—not just value—and comprising numerous up-and-coming wine regions. By capturing the essence of the New World with captivating aromas and flavors, the wines were to be expressive of their origin and have worldwide appeal. Now, Viña Maipo wines are available in over 80 markets, showcasing the potential of Chile for the production of great wines.
Born from long tradition in winemaking and a passion for authenticity, Viña Maipo wines range from a classic Casablanca Sauvignon Blanc to an extraordinarily elegant Cabernet Sauvignon. Weinlaub is also experimenting in the 5,000 acres of vineyards he manages, specially customizing every tank and advocating for a new Chilean Syrah movement. Today, the winery is one of the five main exporting wineries in Chile, leading the way in strengthening Chile’s reputation for world-class wines.
