Founded on a bit of a whim, Portobello Road Gin (PRG) has become an international, award-winning favorite with critics and consumers. Named after the iconic London market street on which it’s located, it occupies The Distillery—a four-floor, gin-lover’s paradise that includes a “Ginstitute,” a Resting Room, and a GinTonica.
Once a year, the company distills a small-batch, limited edition gin called the Directors Cut to celebrate the birthday it shares with Founding Director Ged Feltham, which also gives Master Distiller Jake Burger and his fellow directors a chance to show off their considerable gin-making talents. This year’s Directors Cut is believed to be the first ever Pechuga Gin, a nod to Mexico’s mezcal de pechuga, a spirit traditionally imbibed on festive occasions like baptisms, marriages, and quinceañeras.
A redistilled version of PRG’s signature No. 171 blend, the Directors Cut No.03 combines 13 botanicals with its star ingredient: organic turkey breast (pechuga is Spanish for chicken or turkey breast). This adds a subtle but distinct flavor to the blend, via suspension in the still’s vapors, which prevents the fruit flavors from overwhelming the gin.
Available over the holidays for an unprecedented £35, the Directors Cut No.03 Pechuga Gin will make a welcome addition to any yuletide gathering.
