From one of the oldest and most renowned true tequila-producing haciendas in Mexico comes a reintroduction of a super-premium favorite: a rare Herradura Reserve aged to perfection in port casks. The name is a bit of a mouthful – Herradura Colección de la Casa, Reserva 2016 – Port Cask Finished Reposado – however the complexity of this bottling is well worth seeking out. This amazing 100% blue agave tequila has been aged for just under a year in charred American oak casks and then finished for two months in specially-selected vintage port casks from Portugal’s acclaimed Duoro Valley. This adds exciting new depth to an already fantastic tequila and only exacerbates the smooth finish.
This release marks the fifth anniversary of Herradura’s small batch tequila offerings and is an homage to the highly rated 2012 Port Cask Finished Reposad that began the series. The series, while expensive, is a super-premium bottle which offers an unparalleled artisanal tequila experience. This small batch series has been incredibly successful and honors traditional tequila production methods while crafting unique and mesmerizing new flavor profiles.
The 2016 Reserva is the work of Master Distiller Maria Teresa Lara, one of the only female Master Distillers in the industry, and she has created a marvelously flavorful tequila. The nose speaks of dried fruit and ripe plum with subtle notes of caramel, chocolate, and cinnamon. A discerning nose may also pick up notes of smoke and tobacco. The taste is rich with notes of port, pepper, and more plum. The finish is the signature, wonderful taste of many Herradura tequilas: smooth and deep with subtle undertones of dark chocolate. This rare bottle is available nationwide in the United States for a limited time. If you are a tequila enthusiast, this is a bottle that your collection needs to include, so seek it out before they are gone!
