Cloudy Bay was created by David Hohnen in 1985, which became the ultimate expression of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. 30 years later the Cloudy Bay team are keeping the adventurous spirit alive by journeying to one of New Zealand’s most challenging winemaking regions: Central Otago.
The result is the Te Wahi 2014, which is the limited release Pinot Noir from that region. “Te Wahi” is a Maori saying, which means “the place”. Cloudy Bay believes the name is suiting since the wine speaks of its origin, encapsulating the extremely southerly and continental terroir of Central Otago. Aromatics of the wine burst with red and black berries, black plum and rich Christmas cake spices. The wine is youthful on the palate with sweet fruit framed by bright acidity with a supple texture and firm tannins, all of which come together for a long, focused and complex finish. Taste a piece of Central Otago that is best paired with wild game and duck, venison or wagyu beef.
