Some stories have mini stories that need to be mentioned while the main one is told, the story of the Benovia Vineyard is one of those stories. After marrying, Joe Anderson and Mary Dewane began a journey that led them to establish a winery and team up with amazing people, including Benovia’s co-owner Mike Sullivan, one of northern California’s top winemakers. Joe and Mary were raised with similar old-fashioned values that focus on surrounding yourself with good people, hard work pays off and be the best at what you do. As such, the Benovia name pays homage to their fathers – Ben Dewane and Novian Anderson. Their journey led them to the purchase of the renowned Cohn Vineyard atop a mountain near Healdsburg followed by a Pinot Noir vineyard near Freestone and the Martaella ranch that surrounds the winery.
Benovia Winery creates small lot, superbly balanced artisan wines. The full production winery being located in the heart of the Russian River Valley with 72 acres of Estate vineyards and grower partners, Benovia maintain a high degree of control over Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Zinfandel wines from vine to bottle. Not only are they particular and successful, at Benovia they practice sustainable farming and they believe that they have struck just the right balance between innovative viticultural techniques and traditional winegrowing. “At Bevonia, our team is an extension of an extraordinary family,” says Joe, “a family that eats, drinks, and breathes a lifelong passion for wine.”
