The aspect the Surrey North Downs hillside trends upwards much like the progression of Greyfriars 2013 Sparkling Rosé Reserve Brut. Planted two years before its harvesting, this pale pink perfection was bottled in 2014 and disgorged and released in 2015 before becoming an award winner in 2016. After taking the silver in both the Decanter Worldwide Wine Awards and the UK Vineyard Association English and Welsh Wine of the Year, the Greyfriars rosé came Highly Recommended at the July 2016 Decanter Panel Tasting.
Just like all the wines on Greyfriars list, the 2013 Sparkling Rosé Reserve Brut closely mirrors output of England’s neighbors across the channel in Champagne, France. With only 7,000 bottle produced, this 11.5% ABV pinot noir with its sweet berry flavor smoothed out around the edges with a hint of vanilla is not going to last long. Greyfriar’s goal is get more people to drink English Sparkling Wine and with offerings like their Sparkling Rosé, they are sure to keep the movement trending for years to come.
