Giacomo and Battista Monico brought a side-street café to London’s West End 140 years ago and left their enchanting mark on the city. Established in 1877, it survived the demolishing of 1885 when the majority of the neighborhood was wiped out for the construction of Shaftesbury Avenue. Instead, the brothers expanded their space and continued to wow customers for another generation before finally getting taken over by the expansion of Piccadilly Circus in the 1950s.
