There’s nothing quite like getting into your car and cruising the land of the brave and free. Cross country road trips are as American as apple pie and serve as a great way to experience the unencumbered liberty that citizenship in our fine country ought to provide. But with gas prices becoming prohibitively expensive, it’s good to have a way to cope with the detrimental dent that long amounts of vehicular travel can make on your wallet. I choose to drink away such sorrows. And thankfully the proliferation of craft breweries across the U.S. has afforded me with ample outlets to help ease the pain along the way. There are in fact so many microbreweries currently dotting the landscape from coast-to-coast that one may arrange a road trip from Pacific to Atlantic oriented completely around finding the next one a little further down the road. On Saturday, June 16th, another sunny morning in Southern California will be the setting for the first ever B3 Charity Ride. Benefiting the Pablove Foundation, which fights childhood cancer, the event will consist of a three stop, 16.8 mile bike ride through Los Angeles. The excitement begins in Burbank at 9AM in the cozy confines of Tony’s Darts Away (1710 West Magnolia Boulevard), a fun, Vegan-friendly bar featuring a great beer selection and—not surprisingly—their very own dart board. Biscuits and Gravy will be served in order to help bikers load up on carbohydrates before heading off to Glendale—home of Golden Road Brewing Company. There you’ll find $1 pints for the intrepid biker who will no doubt be in need of a cool down before heading up the hill and into Echo Park for the final leg, concluding at Mohawk Bend (2141 W Sunset Boulevard). Finish off an enjoyable morning with [...]
In the heart of Glendale, California you’ll find one of the West Coast’s most exciting new breweries: Golden Road (5410 West San Fernando Road). Less than a year old, this young and promising line of craft beers has been created to fill the void of quality microbrewing in Southern California. According to Meg Gill, their President and Co-Founder, “there’s 200 breweries in Northern California and 70 in San Diego, but only a handful of breweries in L.A.” So with a mission of bringing craft beer to the eclectic communities of Los Angeles, Golden Road has opened their very own brewpub and just recently started canning their own tasty line of IPAs. Their signature Point The Way American IPA is a medium-bodied, super sweet ale. With an ABV of 5.2%, it’s not incredibly strong, but it is flavorful and will last a while in your refrigerator thanks to its specially designed pint-sized can. [...]
