Enoteca 100

2009-11-082

Greetings, drinkers! We’re back from the busy weekend with a recap of Enoteca 1oo, an all-new annual Italian wine and food tasting event on the Peninsula, sponsored by Slow Food South Bay and A.G. Ferrari. The tasting boasts 100 of Italy’s best artisan wines paired with delicious Italian nibbles and signature creations by Donato Enoteca’s own Chef Donato.

It was such a lovely day for it (as evidenced by the blue sky in our pics below), and the space itself was open and stretched throughout the length of the restaurant, with a cozy cove in the back where most of the wineries were situated. The bites were outstanding – delicious wild boar spread over olive-oil drizzled crostini, an array of imported Italian cheeses, ravioli stuffed with rabbit, pork and beef, dense chocolate cake and tons more – and complemented the selection of wines nicely. The folks were very friendly and the stories behind the wines were fun and fascinating to hear. Onto the wines!

Here are a few standouts from the day:

+ A delightful Spumante, Ribolla Gialla “Fenis” 2007, very dense and full-bodied

+ Offerings from the always delightful Ruggeri Prosecco family, my favorite

+ Movia Ribolla 2006, a maddeningly deceptive white that feels red, red, red!

+ Sassotondo Rosso ’08 was a great red with a super smooth finish

+ Last but not least, a lovely wine that tastes just like its label looks: Donnafugata Anthilia

Hope to see you (and your adorable pups) there next year!
